I was wandering thru wal-Mart today and found myself in the Camping section buying a spork. I then wandered to the end of the isle and turnd to the flashlite section. They have a lot of new lites /headlamps and i alway love to check out their latest offerings. This little beauty cost $4.00 yes four dollars--and it claims to have a 170 hour --yes one hundred and seventy hour run time on 3 alkaline rayovac AAA batteries--Included !! Now the last time i checked there was about 24 hours in a day --more or less --so this lite should be able to give off lite for 170 hours divided by 24 which is more or less 7 days or, a week. Now I looked at this and the first thing I thought was well yah but probably the light is so dim you would not be able to use it for anything but using it to get your keys in your door lock ??---So I purchased one and took it to the factory for testing. As I write this the lite is setting on my bench with a stop watch and i am timing it to see just how long it will burn and how bright it will be --say--after a day ?? But I have to say that last night I used it and it was to date the best light i have ever used of this small size and weight as well as price range. The beam was brighter than my prentice aurora on high and it weighed in with batteries at 2.36 oz. As they say time will tell the story, but even if it only burns for 20 hours --at 2.36 oz and 4 bucks it is a deal. I also took it apart to see how tought it was to change the batteries and to look at the guts. It was a two screw breeze and there doesn't seem to be any circuit board other than a very small piece to mount the LED. But with modern technology there could be one inside the bulb housing or it could be right inside the LED. Also LED technology is always getting better and it may be that this LED is just a very super efficient? bright model---Tinny---got lite ??
I used the Hyperflow on my last trip to filter water from very shallow pools of rain water in the granite sheets on the summit. This technique would not be possible if not for the unique design of the prefilter. Because it is a flat sheet with a very fine mesh screen on only one side it can be used in a very shallow pool without pulling in air. The only other water source was at the summit bypass trail where the bypass trail and the summet trail meet, and I really didn't want to carry water back up the the mountain. The tent was not designed to be used in cold and windy conditions and by morning, after being closed up to stay warm all night, the inside was covered with condensation and it was cold windy and overcast with no chance to dry anything out. we were in a constant cloud of wet fog as we packed up and my hands got numb from the cold so I had to put on gloves.---Tinny---got fun ?
